Air Quality

Recent Air Quality Data in Golden February 3 to 9, 2017

Last week the cold weather continued and many of us in Golden were keeping our wood stoves stoked up to keep warm. Unfortunately, excessive smoke affected air quality.
The monitoring station at the hospital registered levels of fine particulates that were well above provincial objectives on four days last week.
This presents a hazard to the health of residents, especially those who are more vulnerable.
We can avoid this if everyone made sure to use only very dry wood, and give the fire lots of air at all times. Please do not try to hold fires overnight by smouldering your wood.
If your wood stove is an older model please consider replacing it as soon as possible. You may be eligible for substantial rebates to off-set the cost of a new heating appliance.
Vouchers are available at Parky’s and Kardash.  You will save money in the long run and reduce your contribution to local air pollution.

Thanks for being a good neighbour!
